  • About
  • The Treadwell Residence draws inspiration from the hill town of San Gimignano, where a constellation of towers rises from a compact medieval fabric. That precedent is reinterpreted here through a composition of vertical volumes that are carefully offset and layered across the site, creating a sense of density and hierarchy within a single-family home. Rather than a singular mass, the house reads as a small settlement of forms, each shaped by light, view, and movement.

Living spaces unfold vertically across multiple levels, connected by a central stair that serves as both circulation and spatial anchor. Solid walls establish moments of enclosure, while terraces and carefully framed openings introduce light and long views. This balance of compression and release echoes the experience of moving through historic hill towns, translated through a restrained palette of stucco, stone, wood, and steel. Rooted in an ancient urban tradition yet clearly contemporary, the house explores how verticality, craft, and proportion can shape a modern domestic environment.
