- About
Shore Vista Boat Dock rests on a bend of Lake Austin, directly across from the Balcones Canyonlands Nature Preserve. Its elliptical form responds to the contours of the shoreline, framing long views of the surrounding hills and the ribbon of water below.
Rounded edges and curved glass railings soften the structure’s profile, allowing the landscape to remain the focal point.A sweeping stair connects the dock’s two levels, its gentle rise designed for accessibility and ease of movement. The entry sequence unfolds gradually, evoking the experiential approach of Oscar Niemeyer’s Niterói Museum in Rio de Janeiro. Like its Brazilian inspiration, the dock is conceived as both architecture and promenade—an invitation to move slowly, observe the shifting reflections, and engage directly with the water. A lowered beach at the base of a cascading waterfall offers a place for swimming and play. The waterfall generates a cooling mist in summer while masking lake noise with a soft acoustic veil. Structurally, a series of tapered steel I-beams support a slender roof plane that appears to hover above the water, creating one of the first curvilinear dock designs on Lake Austin.
Designed for both lively gatherings and quiet retreat, Shore Vista Boat Dock embodies a sense of ease and refinement. It celebrates the elemental beauty of the lake through light, movement, and form—transforming a functional structure into a sculptural extension of the landscape.
